Here’s a quick tip on how to prevent a good majority of toddler temper tantrums.
This tip won’t prevent 100% of all tantrums, but it will help to reduce the frequency.
It’s going to be your handy-dandy phone to the rescue again! Is there really anything modern technology can’t solve?
The built-in timer on your phone is an amazing way to prepare your child for transitioning from one activity to the next, thus preventing melt-downs and tantrums.
For example, when my toddler is playing outside and it’s time to come in for nap time, I tell him “the timer is set for 5 minuets and when the timer goes off… it’s nap time.”
I will set the timer on my phone anywhere from 1 to 10 minutes. I talk this up for a good amount of time so he is well prepared for what is going to happen when he hears the timer go off.
Mentally preparing toddlers for the next activity is key.
I love using the timer on my phone because it’s something I always have with me. Plus, my toddler likes having the timer signal the directive order instead of Mom.
This method will take some practice. Eventually, your toddler will even get excited to set the timer themselves and hear it go off!
I hope this helps you!
